This might be the most "fun" part of doing this whole project... that is if you don't count the part of getting your income checks in the mail or your "paypal" account.
Now you need to systematically open free affiliate accounts is one or more "affiliage account management sites".
(note: do NOT make the mistake I did... make sure you keep track of the addresses, user names you use, and passwords... either on paper, in a "word" document, or in a spreadsheet-type program.) You might also want to set up a single folder for each one in your email program so that you can have the emails automatically sorted when they arrive. (see your email programs HELP section to find out how.)
Here are just a few that I found and initially opened.
www.cj.com - Commission Junction - probably one of the biggest I have found. Once you have an account you can find virtually any type of company to affiliate with that you might want to find.
www.clickbank.com - This one also has a large supply of resources but the site is a little more difficult to find your way around if you are a novis. Be patient, and you can get some good affiliate relationships like the text link to the left which reads "For information about a car that runs on water Click Here! "
Clix Galore. - Another good source for many advertisers just waiting to establish an affiliate relationship with you.
Linkconnector Link Connector has a good variety of affiliate programs in most niches. In fact they have over 250 programs and they are growing every day.
www.linkshare.com - Another site that is not as simple as it could be, but a good source of affiliates.
Fusionquest Fusionquest might be small in size, but they are a very good alternative for any affiliate. Good commission models and good programs.
ShareaSale Share a Sale is one of the leading affiliate networks out there with over 2.000 affiliate programs under their management. Focusing solely on 1-tier affiliate programs, Shareasale has been offering highly competative commission.
Any of these should be good enough to get you started advertising the companies that they represent (note the travelocity banner on the left.). There are also good opportunities to set up affiliate relationships with other websites who might have their own affiliate program. When I find a nice site that I would be interested in promoting, I usually go to the bottom of their home page and see if they have an "affiliate" link. If not, I might go to their sitemap and see if there is an "affiliate" page hidden in the website. This is how I goe my relationship with ChinesePod, FrenchPod
, and SpanishPod
.
The FUN aspect comes in to play when you are able to search for companies you could do business with, see what they pay for "clicks", "leads", and "sales" made by people visiting your website.
Some of the Affiliate Management Sites allow you to specify on which of your websites each affiliate's banner or text-link is shown. This is a good thing to utilize so you can tell which sites, and which area of the site is getting the most traffic.
Remember... setting up your affiliate relationships, selecting the companies you wish to represent, and putting the banners and text-links on your web pages is only the beginning. You will also have to drive internet surfers to your site. (Please see the steps about SEO (Search Engine Optomization) and website submission to the search engines.)
It is totally up to you as to what kind of banners or links you want on your site. As you install each banner onto your web pages, check how they look live on the internet often to make sure that their size, position, or layout does not interfere with the other content of the page.
Please also realize that just because you want to have an affiliate relationship with a company... that does not mean that they want to have an affiliate relationship with you. Some companies reserve the right to decline your offer if your site does not meet their particular standards, or target audience. But don't worry, there are literally thousands of other companies standing in line to take their place.
